Meet Our Veterinarians in Valparaiso, IN

Dr. Larry McAfee (retired)

“I was born in Valparaiso, Indiana. I attended Purdue University and graduated from veterinary school in 1973. My areas of interest are small animal health, exotic pet medicine, and wildlife rehabilitation.

I enjoy the outdoors, especially fishing, and have a lifelong devotion to running. My wife Patti and I have been married since 1974 and we have 2 grown children. Our daughter Brooke joined the McAfee Animal Hospital team as a veterinarian in June of 2011, and continues as the third generation of McAfee veterinarians. Our son Luke is an engineer working for Exon/Mobil and lives in Washington D.C.

Patti and I have recently retired but we will remain in Valparaiso. I thank my clients for the joy and satisfaction you have given me over the past 40 years! I am very thankful for the life, times, and memories that Porter County has blessed us with. Patti and I could not ask for a better place to live!”

Dr. Steve Violanti

“I have been practicing at McAfee Animal Hospital since I graduated from Purdue in 1990. I have developed a special interest in small animal surgery, both soft tissue and orthopedics.

Although we were Chesterton High School graduates, Valparaiso has been our home for the past 20 years. Catey not only works as the clinic’s financial manager, but also manages the lives of our 3 children, Matt, Nick, and Andrea. We have two Cavapoos named Rudy and Jack (for Rudolf and Jack Frost, they were Christmas presents).”

Dr. Danielle Walker

“I was born and raised in Farmington Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. I graduated from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. I received my bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.

Immediately after graduation from vet school, I moved to Valparaiso where I began my career at McAfee Animal Hospital. I consider myself very fortunate to have found such a great place to work. On April 24, 2010 we welcomed our daughter Eve into the world.

My greatest passion outside of veterinary medicine is playing piano, although I have been out of practice for a few years. I also enjoy horseback riding, cooking, traveling, and pondering the universe.”

Dr. Brooke McAfee

“I was born and raised in Valparaiso, Indiana. I went to Valparaiso High School. I then attended IUPUI in Indianapolis where I majored in Chemistry and was part of the women’s basketball team. I graduated from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2011.

When I was growing up, we lived right next to the old clinic. I would always walk over to the clinic and make my dad help me cast my teddy bear’s “broken leg”! I have always known that I wanted to be a veterinarian. I absolutely love the profession!

I currently have a maltese, Ava, and a maltese-yorkie, Bentley.

After completion of veterinary school, I started as a Veterinarian at McAfee Animal Hospital in June. My area of interest is Small Animal medicine and surgery. I am proud to be the third generation of McAfee Veterinarians, following in the footsteps of my grandfather and my father. I am so excited to be back and be part of the McAfee Animal Hospital team!”

Bio coming soon.

We’ve been going to McAfee Animal Hospital for 50 years. Doctors and staff have always been so helpful, nice and compassionate. They’ve seen us through more pets than I can count. Last night we had to have one of our cats put down. We appreciate the doctor’s honesty and her and the staff’s compassion.
