Dr. John McAfee (1922-2002)
Dr. John McAfee founded McAfee Animal Hospital in 1943. He graduated from Michigan State University and started out as a 100% large animal veterinarian. He added evening hours in 1948 from 7-8pm Mon, Wed, & Fri to treat small animals.
John was a sole practitioner until 1975 when he added his son Larry as a junior partner. John retired in 1983 and spent his winters in Panama City Beach Florida and his summers in Autrain, Michigan with his wife Ellie. John passed away in 2002; he is missed and loved by all and we treasure his legacy.
Besides his family, which included his five sons and daughters, he lived to trout fish.
Dr. Larry McAfee
Dr. Larry McAfee joined his father in 1975, at that time the practice was 60% small animal and 40% large animal. Experience is a great teacher, and Larry learned from the best! His father retired in 1983; John and Larry thoroughly enjoyed their years as partners. The practice slowly evolved into more small animal and less large animal with the large animal focus centering on equine medicine and surgery.
Larry’s daughter Brooke continues the third generation of McAfee veterinarians, graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Steve Violanti
Dr. Steve Violanti joined the practice in 1990 after graduating from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1996, Dr. Steve became junior partner and in 1999 became a full partner with Dr. McAfee.
Currently the practice is a popular, progressive, pet oriented facility located in N.W. Indiana. We have been AAHA certified since 1986. AAHA (The American Animal Hospital Association) is an organization that demands strict regulation for hospital maintenance, record keeping, and procedures. We are very proud of our facility, staff, and operation. We consider one of our strongest assets to be the one on one relationship we share with clients. We sincerely care about the well being of our pets and their owners.
Dr. Brooke and all the vets at McAfee are the best in the area. They have been taking care of my pets for over 20 years and I would not take them anywhere else. They keep abreast of all new treatments and have been able to help my pets with their health care needs. Absolutely
